چکیده
First generation glass ionomer bone cement was introduced by Wilson and Kent in 1970s and used in dental procedures . In 1989 Hehl et al. reported their experiences of fixing incudostapedial joint with glass ionomer cement . After this study many authors have presented their glass ionomer bone cement ossiculoplasty series [3,5] They showed that very satisfactory hearing improvements can be obtained by using this material.

Zinc phosphate as a definitive cement for implant-supported crowns and fixed dentures
Implant-supported dental prostheses can be retained by a screw or cement. Implant-supported fixed partial dentures have a passive fit. A passive fit means there is an internal gap between the abutment surface and the intaglio of the retainer to insure that there is no lateral pressure on the supporting implants or friction upon seating of the prosthesis. This gap is filled with cement for reten...
متن کاملAn Experimental Study to Determine the Role of Inferior Vena Cava Filter in Preventing Bone Cement Implantation Syndrome
BACKGROUND Inferior vena cava filters (IVCF) are frequently used for preventing pulmonary embolism (PE) following deep venous thromboembolism. OBJECTIVES The present study was designed to investigate whether IVCF could prevent or impede the occurrence of bone cement implantation syndrome (BCIS), since PE is considered as the central mechanism of BCIS. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fifteen sheep wer...
متن کاملAcrylic antibiotic-loaded bone cement: a basic study
Abstract Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of antibiotic-loaded bone cement in controlling local infection and in regard to its physical characteristics, elastic modulus, and tensile strength in-vitro. Methods: Acrylic bone cement, based on polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) was mixed with the powder form of three antibiotics, i.e., gentamicin, tobramycin, and...
متن کاملMechanical Properties and Cytocompatibility Improvement of Vertebroplasty PMMA Bone Cements by Incorporating Mineralized Collagen
Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) bone cement is a commonly used bone adhesive and filling material in percutaneous vertebroplasty and percutaneous kyphoplasty surgeries. However, PMMA bone cements have been reported to cause some severe complications, such as secondary fracture of adjacent vertebral bodies, and loosening or even dislodgement of the set PMMA bone cement, due to the over-high elast...
متن کاملDislodgement and gastrointestinal tract penetration of bone cement used for spinal reconstruction after lumbosacral vertebral tumor excision
INTRODUCTION Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) cement is useful for spinal reconstruction, but can cause complications including new vertebral fractures, neurological disorders and pulmonary embolism. We report a case in PMMA cement used for spinal reconstruction after tumor curettage dislodged and penetrated the gastrointestinal tract. DIAGNOSES The patient was diagnosed with a retroperitoneal e...
